First Few Days in the Missionary Training Center

Maayong adlaw! Our daughter, Sister Cerah Padilla, has been at the Philippines MTC for just 5 days and look how much she has already seen, learned, and felt!

She shared that they received their phones and key cards right away!

"It still feels crazy that missionaries today use high‑tech phones, but we use them to study, learn, and teach the gospel! In a changing world, the gospel keeps finding new ways to spread."
-Sister Padilla

She received all five vaccine shots and yes, the soreness was real! But she wrote: "I believe healing in the MTC is faster because of the prayers of others for missionaries to stay healthy. I have felt the strength from your prayers."

She met her two companions and roommates, Sister Pascual and Sister Orcuse. "We relate on so many things and help each other grow. We’ve already strengthened each other’s testimonies!"

And get this, they even earned a reward and certificate for having the cleanest room!

"I love the food here, but nothing beats my dad’s cooking!" She did admit the chicken burrito and fries were pretty good though!

She loves how interactive the classes are, not just listening, but practicing! She expressed such gratitude for her amazing teachers: Brother Bordeos, Brother Labasa, Brother Patricio, and Sister Manding who are helping her grow in testimony and purpose.

On her very first Sunday, she was surprised to be asked to give a 3–5 minute talk on "The Gospel of Jesus Christ"! She prepared the night before and though she felt nervous, she shared this beautiful realization:

"Every time I doubt I can do it, whether teaching, speaking, or serving, the Spirit and the Savior prove me wrong. He gives the strength I need."

She shared a precious insight from Doctrine and Covenants 58:27–28:

"Verily, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause… for the power is in them."

Her heart understood this: Heavenly Father trusts us to choose good on our own. The power is already within us! We can choose to help, to study, to serve, even when no one is watching. And He promises to bless us for it.

HER QUESTION FOR US:

"What’s one thing that made you smile this week? I’d love to hear from you!" 😊

So proud of our Sister Padilla! Only 5 days in, and already learning such powerful truths that the power is already in her, that prayers bring strength, and that with the Lord, she can do hard things. We love you, Sister Padilla!
