Children and Youth Program Initiative

Part of our Family Home Evening last 25 February 2020 was watching the Face to Face event for children, youth, parents, and leaders, where President and Sister Oaks answered questions from around the world focusing on the Children and Youth program which is to strengthen the rising generation’s faith in Jesus Christ, and help children, youth, and their families progress along the covenant path as they meet life’s challenges.

Our children then made a resolution to follow the process more intentionally: discover, plan, act, and reflect. They have also set personal goals that challenge and stretch them and continue to discover new talents, interests, and skills.

This morning, when my husband and I woke up, we were surprised to see the house already sparkling clean. They worked together to do the house chores after their personal prayer and scripture study.

The opportunity to counsel with our children to discover the areas of growth and learning they are interested in is a blessing to us. We know that as they receive revelation for their lives, build gospel-centered relationships, and exercise agency as they grow, they will be successful in all areas of life.

Looking Back On My Own Teenage Years

Thinking back when I was teen helps me to relate to teens today especially to my own teenage children. In my youth, there were many things I enjoyed being a part of. I loved youth conferences and camps. I enjoyed playing chess and table tennis. I learned to play the flute, piano and guitar. I had fun chatting with adults visiting our home. We never used internet as we did not have it. I studied from textbooks and only went to the library when we had assignments. I used encyclopedia.    Looking back, I can say that my knowledge of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ made me unique. It enabled me to endure and overcome the difficulties of growing up. This evening, we came home edified and strengthened by the girls at Parola Santuwaryo. We gave a Sunday lesson and showed to them this video. They shared the miracles in their life and one of them said the greatest miracle that ever happened to her was when she was rescued from her abuser. She has been quiet for years because she was scared. Her prayers were answered.  So many of us stretch our faces with smiles enough to mask the pain we hide. Inside, we feel empty, broken, doubtful,and even guilty for the way we feel. Through our Savior Jesus Christ, we can find lasting peace even amidst the shadows and storms of life.  As children of God, we can discover the power within us to find wholeness and help others heal, and experience for ourselves how good trumps evil. No matter what our disappointment or failure or loss may be, allowing ourselves to be healed and guided by the Master Healer will lift us out of darkness into His light.

Our first day at the temple started bright and early at 6 in the morning. BYU-I Fall 2021

We are looking forward to starting and completing our chosen course this fall semester. Child Development course is a theoretical, academically oriented course focusing on the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of the child from conception through adolescence. As parents ourselves and assisting and giving support to other children, we are excited to learn and  explore the influences of family, peers, and social institutions on the child's development.  We know that connecting the dots between what we learn and what we do takes creativity and even stepping outside our comfort zone.Our most favorite part is searching for daily opportunities at home and at work to apply what we learn.
