Reflection and Anticipation
As we are about to wrap up 2023 and reflecting on how the year went for me, it's so timely that I found the following questions from the Come, Follow Me as I study Revelation 20:12–15 this morning:
If you knew that your future actions would also be recorded, how would you approach your life differently?
What do you hope will be written about you in the book of life?
How would you describe the Savior’s role in your book of life?
In your opinion, why is it significant that it is called “the Lamb’s book of life”?
REFLECTION:
If an author were to write a book about my life, there are a few details and experiences that I would want to be included:
1. Personal growth and self-discovery: I would want the book to capture my journey of self-improvement, the challenges I've faced, and how I've grown as an individual.
2. Relationships and connections: The book should highlight the meaningful relationships I've formed, the love and support I've received from family and friends, and the impact they've had on my life.
3. Pursuit of passions and dreams: I would want the book to showcase my pursuit of my passions, the goals I've set, and the steps I've taken to achieve them. It would be inspiring to see how I've overcome obstacles and pursued my dreams with determination.
4. Acts of kindness and service: I would hope that the book would highlight the times when I've made a positive impact on others through acts of kindness and service. It would be fulfilling to see how I've contributed to making the world a better place.
If I knew that my future actions would be recorded, it would definitely make me more conscious of my choices and actions. I would strive to live a life aligned with my values, making decisions that would positively impact myself and others. I would be more intentional in my relationships, seeking to build meaningful connections and leaving a positive influence on those around me.
Revelation 20:12–15 speaks about the Book of Life, which contains the names of those who will inherit eternal life. What I hope will be written about me in the Book of Life is that I lived a life filled with love, compassion, and service. I hope it would reflect my efforts to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and strive to be a good disciple. I would want it to show that I sought forgiveness, repented of my mistakes, and worked towards becoming a better person.
The Savior's role in my Book of Life is significant because He is the one who enables me to have eternal life. Through His Atonement, He provides the way for me to be forgiven, cleansed, and redeemed. His teachings and example guide me in my journey, and His grace gives me strength and hope. The title "the Lamb's book of life" signifies the sacrificial nature of Jesus Christ's mission. He is the Lamb of God who willingly gave His life for the salvation of humanity. It is a reminder of His love, mercy, and ultimate sacrifice for us.
