Beyond the Perfect Picture

Image
Let's talk about church. Not the polished Instagram version, all smiles and perfectly-behaved kids. Let's talk about the real church – the one filled with messy, complicated, wonderfully imperfect people, just like you and me.   Because honestly? Church is hard.   It's hard for the person creeping in the back, terrified of judgment. It's hard for the bishop's family, carrying the weight of everyone's expectations. It's hard for the prodigal, returning home bruised and battered. It's hard for the teenager pretending to have it all together, while their heart screams for help. It's hard for the couple who just fought the whole way to service. It's hard for the woman watching children play, a silent ache in her heart. It's hard for the widow or widower, sitting alone, wishing someone would just say hello.   The list goes on, doesn't it? Divorce feels like failure. Church songs can be a tidal wave ...

Elder Alvin F. Meredith III Visits Canada: Inspiring Youth and Sharing BYU-Idaho's Vision

Image
Today, my children and I attended a BYU-hosted Educational Evening. This significant event brought together Canadian youth and their families interested in higher education. Elder Alvin F. Meredith III, President of Brigham Young University–Idaho (BYU-Idaho) , and other university representatives made a special visit to Canada.   The evening highlighted BYU-Idaho as a post-secondary option, emphasizing its unique academic programs, strong faith-based foundation, and supportive learning environment designed to foster both academic and spiritual growth.   This multi-stake fireside was more than just an informational meeting; it was an inspiring event that left a lasting impression on all who attended, igniting a passion for learning and planting seeds of hope for the future. For many young people, including our children, it may have been the spark that ignited their dreams of a BYU-Idaho education. President Meredith's message emphasized th...

19 Years of Motherhood: A Letter to My Children

Image
To my dearest kids,   Wow, 19 years! Looking back on our journey together, I'm just overflowing with gratitude for the amazing gift of being your mom. You all have brought so much joy, so much love, so much meaning into my life – it's seriously incredible. And because of you, I've become a way better person – stronger, wiser, and definitely more patient!   Being your mom has been the best adventure ever. You've taught me so much about patience (believe me, you've tested that!), kindness, and what unconditional love really means. You're all so selfless, and you inspire me to be the best mom I can be.   I'm so lucky to have you. I cherish every single moment we share, from your silly jokes that make me laugh until my sides hurt, to those cozy hugs that melt all my worries away. Even the tough times – we've tackled them together, and they've made us even closer. You're my best teachers, and you fill my life wit...

Our Journey Towards a Zero-Waste, Healthier Lifestyle

Image
Okay, so maybe "zero-waste" sounds a bit intense, even to me. But the idea sparked when I started really looking at our home, at how much stuff we have, and where it all goes when we're done with it. It's not about being perfect, it's about trying to be more mindful.   This isn't a list of things to buy or habits to change (though, let's be honest, there will be some of that!). It's about a shift in how I think about things. It's about letting go of some things I love (yes, it's hard!), figuring out new ways to do things, and seeing if I actually prefer the new ways. Sometimes I will, sometimes I won't, and that's okay!   My big, slightly crazy, goal? To bring nothing into our home that can't be recycled, composted, or buried in the garden. I know, right?  But even small steps in that direction feel good. It's about thinking about the whole life cycle of something before I buy it.   And then there's the food thin...

Responding to the Savior's Invitation: Arise and Come Forth

Image
This morning, during my scripture study, I had a profound experience where I felt the Savior Himself reaching out to me, inviting me to " arise and come forth unto" Him. It was as if a veil was lifted, and I could sense His presence more clearly than ever before. This invitation prompted me to delve deeper into understanding how He invites us to come closer to Him. As I continue to ponder and study, here are some ways the Savior invites us to "arise and come forth unto" Him: Through Repentance and a Change of Heart   The Savior's visit to the Nephites was preceded by a period of great darkness and destruction. He taught them that their suffering was a consequence of their wickedness and invited them to repent and turn to Him. This principle holds true for us today. Repentance is not simply about acknowledging our mistakes but about actively seeking change and aligning our lives with God's will. By turning away from sin and living righ...

Reflections on Love, Faith, and Marriage

Image
Reflecting on my marriage with Anatolin on the morning of September 26th, 2024, I felt prompted to share the thoughts and feelings I had written in my personal journal, feeling the crisp autumn air, drifted through the open window, a comforting reminder of the season's change. In the suburbs of La Union, surrounded by the whispers of faith, my beloved Anatolin and I began a timeless journey together. Our love story, rooted in the tender soil of teenage friendship, blossomed into a marriage sanctified by our shared faith as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Standing by Anatolin's side on our wedding day in 2005 at the Manila Philippines Temple , with our families surrounding us, I felt profound gratitude for the love that had brought us together. We solemnly entered into sacred covenants with Heavenly Father and each other, committing to uphold fidelity, live in a Christlike manner, honor all gospel commitments, and fulfill th...

Unleashing Your Potential as a Woman

Image
As women, we often wear many hats. We juggle careers, families, and personal aspirations, all while striving for success in every aspect of our lives. But what if I told you there's one simple shortcut that can unlock a higher level of success in all areas of your life?   It's a concept I learned from my favorite author, Jack Canfield. It's all about taking 100% responsibility for your life.   Before we dive in, let's ask ourselves a crucial question: Who is the most important person in your life?   The answer is simple: YOU .   Your self-perception, your understanding of who you are and what you truly desire, has a profound impact on your success. It shapes your relationships, your career, your finances, and ultimately, your overall happiness.   So, how can you cultivate a stronger relationship with yourself, boost your confidence, and gain clarity on your potential? The answer lies in taking ownership. Stop blaming your boss, your spouse, the econo...
